ABOUT

Established in 2006 in Covina, CA, The Prescott Family originally formed as a music and arts collective, born of a shared love for creative expression and a divinely authored friendship among its members. Their humble beginnings saw them embark on a journey to nurture a thriving community both locally and on a broader scale.

With a heartfelt mission to promote artistic exploration and collaboration, they handcrafted CD-R releases and collaborated with like-minded groups, organizing events that brought people together and set Prescott Family apart from the chaff.

In its formative years, the collective achieved some noteworthy milestones, curating an impressive collection of over 40 D.I.Y. albums, art projects, and ‘zines (several of which have since become “lost media”). Notably, their two compilation albums collectively showcased the work of over 50 talented artists and acts, representing a diverse tapestry of creative voices. Their dedication to celebrating artistic diversity resonated deeply within the independent music scene, leaving an enduring imprint, both musical and interpersonal.

Around 2010, as life’s chapters unfolded, the collective members began new personal journeys. Taking the reins, Tony Ortega, one of the PF’s founding members, made the decision to transition the collective into a formal record label…at least in concept, though the label itself has consistently grown alongside his musical endeavors. From 2012 to 2021, Prescott Family primarily showcased Tony’s own music, allowing his vision to reach appreciative audiences all around the world.

In recent times, The Prescott Family has experienced a revitalization. Anticipation builds within the label as a new compilation album slowly takes shape, signaling an exciting chapter for the label. While the roster currently predominantly features Tony’s diverse musical projects, including the vibrant ska-infused sounds of Hebron James, whose debut album “Bouzai” delighted listeners in 2020, the label remains true to its authentic and down-to-earth sensibilities and remains geared toward future growth and expansion. Accordingly, Orem the Sink, an original member project, which has remained a constant presence since the label’s inception, captivating listeners with introspective and atmospheric lo-fi space folk melodies, has already unofficially announced the release of new material.

Throughout their journey, The Prescott Family has nurtured meaningful relationships with various labels and collectives. Their collaborations have encompassed tour booking, organizing events, undertaking service projects, and releasing catalogs of music.

Returning to their grassroots origins, the label renews its dedication to their roots by continuing to produce low-cost, DIY CD-r and digital releases, even as the label itself pursues expansions. Undeterred by grandiosity, they remain steadfast in their commitment to the original mission statement, continuously seeking new avenues to foster creativity and strengthen the music community.

With an unwavering focus on artistic authenticity and a rich history of artistic and community-driven initiatives, the Prescott Family record label contributes to the music landscape. The label stands as a testament to the power of creativity and the profound connections that emerge when artists unite in their shared love for music.

Welcome to The Prescott Family, a down-to-earth haven where creativity finds comfort, extraordinary music is crafted, and the pursuit of art and creativity thrives.
